Film Screening: TURA!

The Chicago Public Library’s Harold Washington Library Center will host a screening of the documentary TURA!, about the life of pioneering Asian American burlesque performer, dancer and cult film star Tura Satana on Friday, May 29 in the Cindy Prtizker Auditorium.

Lead actor in John Waters’ favorite film, Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!, Satana faced incredible odds as a Japanese American woman growing up in post-World War II Chicago but became a cultural icon and entertainment innovator by sheer force of will. Please join us for a celebration of the life and work of a remarkable woman who literally kicked down the doors of pop culture and whose story serves as a wonderful bridge between the AANHPI and Pride month festivities.
