Artist Statement
I’ve been creating fiber art for over 40 years now. But I like to break the traditional rules of stitchery. Needlework is usually neat, tidy, and quaint. But my pieces include torn fabric, unfinished canvases, and yarn extending outside the mat and frame. Also, I like to add a dash of wit. Some of the subjects I explore with my art include politics, nostalgia, pop culture, and the LGBTQ+ identity.
Third Floor Gallery:Â
Nick Mozak (he/him)
Artist statement
I am a Chicago-based abstract artist who brings a rich and layered approach to mixed media. Working with acrylic, collage, and found objects on paper and wood panel, my paintings are deeply influenced by the textures of the urban landscape: the weathered beauty of aged buildings, the mercurial movement of natural /artificial light and the diverse patterns found in nature.
Before dedicating fully to the current art practice, I spent 40 years as a set and costume designer in both professional and academic theatre. That background continues to shape my creative process, infusing the work with a keen sense of composition, texture, and storytelling.
My work has been exhibited across the Midwest, Pacific Northwest, California, and New England, and has been featured in contemporary art publications: Juniper Rag and Artist CloseUp.
