The Uncanny Attic: Chapters I-L

The Uncanny Attic is a theatrical anthology inspired by Edward Gorey’s iconic The Gashlycrumb Tinies. This absurdist dark comedy series brings to life, and then almost immediately to death, the book’s twenty-six ill-fated children. Each installment ‘chapters’ of The Uncanny Attic creates imagined histories for four of Gorey’s ill-fated characters as told through puppetry, clowning, dance, live music, drag, stop-motion animation, and visual theater.
Set inside the mysterious attic of an abandoned house on the cape and narrated by a family of resident raccoons, each chapter is a self-contained theatrical journey into the camp macabre world of the fictional town, Willowdale. There, through a series of not-so-random circumstances, audiences encounter an unforgettable cast of eccentric characters whose fates inevitably lead to a delightfully sticky end.
The Uncanny Attic: Chapters I-L cast includes veteran performers in several disciplines including co-creators Jennifer Friedrich (Incurable Theater, Redmoon Theater) and Bazuka Joe (Poonie’s Cabaret, Newport Theater Camp), along with Jill Summers, Susie Kirkwood, Josh Levine and Mackenzie Shapiro, Luc Ami, Mz Love, Karma Carnelian, Derry Eire, Marla Wyrd, Lady Ve’Lush, Vixxie Velvet, and Vixen Violencia.
The Uncanny Attic is an original performance series created and produced by Chicago-based Beautifully Gruesome Productions, the creative partnership of Jennifer Friedrich (The Bunny Royale) and Bazuka Joe.
