SUMMARY:Center On Halsted Art Gallery Opening - APRIL 10
DESCRIPTION:Located on the 2nd and 3rd floor at the Center on Halsted – come experience the best in Queer art. Free to enjoy. Donations accepted at the Volunteer desk. \nJoin us for the opening reception featuring art by Ms. Alexander Martin (she/her/hers) on our second floor and Noah Thomas (he/him) on our third floor. \nARTIST: Ms. Alexander Martin (she/her/hers) – My practice takes the largely oral and embodied tradition of my communities (Black\, Trans\, Queer\, Appalachian) and brings them into public\, academic\, and art spaces via mixed media work\, performance\, dance\, and education\, in an effort to shift the dominant canon. Through painting\, sculpture\, illustration\, performance\, and ritual\, my current work is documentation\, religious artifact\, lore\, and history\, of an imagined world that is Black\, Trans\, and Queer at its core. A world of Divine beings\, spirits\, practitioners\, demons\, all participating in an endless dance and cycle of self discovery\, growth\, empowerment\, and rebirth. With its own language (Qyrd) and pantheon of divine houses\, this work elevates cultural and historical elements of my communities to a space of celebration. It represents the endless cycle of growth\, healing\, re-birth\, survival\, and empowerment that is at the core of the queer experience. Ancestry\, legacy\, hardship\, what is passed down or carried on\, the cultural elements that survive or are invented\, are all reimagined through a lens of mythos.. \nARTIST: Noah Thomas (he/him) – Rooted in a rapidly changing world\, my works hold tightly to the feelings of growth and how we are shaped by our experiences. Within my series\, Wandering Through\, abstract forms shift in and out of uncanny and familiar shapes while navigating atmospheric and colorful dreamlike landscapes. My working method involves using sponges\, layering and glazing to capture textures that make a space feel real. Finding a delicate balance between the bold linework\, surreal color palettes\, and negative space is central to my works. I strive to create a harmonious relationship between the movement of the linework and shapes while preserving the contrast as the subjects dance throughout the negative space in the surreal environment. Visually inspired by my persistent desire to be outside\, memories\, and the beauty we find along the way\, the series reflects how we adapt to our surroundings and learn from the encounters that inevitably shape our lives and the organisms around us. My love for creating a world that can feel just as expressive as the subjects within the space has been a consistent unifying theme throughout my works. I aim to capture not only what a space looks like\, but how it feels to inhabit it. As the world continues to change\, my series invites us to slow down\, reflect\, and enjoy the moment you’re in while wandering through the experiences life has to offer.

SUMMARY:Q Salon: Common Threads & What We Want
DESCRIPTION:We are excited to announce our March Q Salon will be Tuesday\, March 24! This month we will be picking up where we left off with a discussion around the common threads that bring us together under the Democratic coalition and what exactly it is that we want out of our politics. \nWhy are we talking about this? It’s simple. If we can’t articulate what we want\, we can’t work to make it happen. And\, if anyone should decide what the Democratic party and progressive politics should stand for\, it should be us\, the people\, not anyone else. \nFor this month’s salon\, we’ll gather at the Center On Halsted (3656 N. Halsted). Doors will open at 6pm and we’ll get started at 6:30pm. \nBring your friends and see you there!

SUMMARY:Queer Connections Presents: Black Queer Histories “A Conversation with Author Darius Bost”
DESCRIPTION:Queer Connections: Men of Color + Allies would like to host an intimate book launch and author conversation celebrating the work of Darius Bost\, award-winning scholar and co-author of a groundbreaking new book that centers Black queer voices across U.S. history.\nThe evening would feature a moderated panel-style interview with Darius Bost\, highlighting key themes from the book and exploring the intersection of Black history\, queerness\, gender expression\, and liberation movements. This conversation would be followed by a brief audience Q&A and an opportunity to connect over drinks. \nEvent Host: Mycall Akeem Riley\nAbout the Book\nThis landmark work is the first Black history text to center queer voices\, tracing the lives and contributions of LGBTQ+ Black Americans from slavery to the present day. Co-authored by Professors C. Riley Snorton and Darius Bost as part of Beacon Press’ award-winning ReVisioning History series\, the book examines how gender and sexual expression have always been integral to Black freedom struggles.\nThrough powerful storytelling and historical analysis\, the book uplifts figures such as Josephine Baker\, Bayard Rustin\, Private Cathay Williams\, and Amanda Milan\, while also addressing the marginalization\, criminalization\, and resistance of Black queer and trans communities. It ultimately reframes Black and LGBTQ+ history as deeply interconnected. \nAudience & Format\nOpen to everyone of all ages

SUMMARY:Together We Win: Fight for the T in Team
DESCRIPTION:Fight for the T in Team: Together We Win Panel & Community Dinner WHEN: Tuesday January 13\, 2026 6pm WHERE: Center on Halsted 3656 N Halsted St\, Chicago\, IL 60613 \nOn Jan. 13\, the U.S. Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in two cases that will shape the future of transgender and nonbinary (TNB) youth and people in this country: West Virginia v. BPJ and Little v. Hecox. These two cases represent two teenage girls from West Virginia and Idaho\, who sued just to be allowed to continue playing sports like any other student. And we are united as a Team for them! \nThe panel\, beginning at 6:30pm\, will break down the oral arguments and the potential impacts on the Equal Protection Clause and Title IX. A meal will follow\, allowing attendees to connect as a community. \nWHEN AND WHERE: ABOUT THE CASES: In these cases\, the Court will decide whether states can categorically bar transgender girls and women from participating on girls’ and women’s sports teams\, a direct challenge to the Equal Protection Clause and Title IX. A broad ruling could go even further\, opening the door to widespread discrimination against transgender people not only from playing sports but in every part of public life\, including a discriminatory shift in how youth participate in school activities and extracurricular programs. These cases go beyond laws and impact who we should respect as part of our communities\, what our public schools should be like and who they should serve\, and what role the government should play in our lives. \nWHY IS IT IMPORTANT: While our communities are worried about putting food on the table\, making rent\, losing healthcare\, or being disappeared by ICE\, politicians and billionaires are making our lives harder by spending millions of dollars to ignite unfounded fears about trans people in an attempt to divide us. The current administration is abusing his power to target our communities\, suppress dissent\, and create a climate of fear\, and some politicians are using these cases to legitimize discrimination and push trans and nonbinary people out of public life altogether. We refuse to let that happen. \nHOW CAN I SUPPORT?: JOIN US on Tuesday\, Jan. 13 when a national coalition of organizations led by ACLU\, Lambda Legal\, Transgender Law Center (TLC) and Genders & Sexualities Alliance Network (GSA Network)\, are coming together to say clearly: We Fight for Team Trans Youth. And we need you with us! \nLet’s cheer them up. Join our TEAM! RSVP Now! And make sure your friends sign up too! \nAnd help spread the word on social media.

SUMMARY:Rapornzel
DESCRIPTION:The bawdy\, silly\, and immensely entertaining adult pantos by Britain’s Tom Whalley have become a popular holiday season tradition at PrideArts\, and the company will continue this tradition with its fourth Whalley panto – RAPORNZEL. Like its PrideArts predecessors JACK OFF THE BEANSTALK\, SLEEPING WITH BEAUTY\, and THROBBIN WOOD\, RAPORNZEL will fracture a famous fairy tale with unimaginable R-rated puns\, pop songs\, and audience participation\, all adding up to an outrageously good time. RAPORNZEL will be directed by Claire Hart Proepper of Laughing Stock Theatre\, the Evanston based theatre company specializing in Commedia dell’arte. The Italian tradition of Commedia dell’arte\, which flourished in the 16th Century\, was an influence on the genre of British pantos in its use of improvision\, exaggerated characters\, slapstick comedy\, and audience participation. Proepper’s experience in performing and directing Commedia dell’arte makes her uniquely qualified to bring the anarchic humor of Whalley’s panto to life.

SUMMARY:Center on Halsted Art Gallery Opening
DESCRIPTION:Description\n\n\nJoin us for a night of artwork in our second and third-floor gallery spaces. \nLearn more about the artists below: \nSecond Floor Gallery:  \nKevin Lustik\, (he/him) \nArtist Statement \nI’ve been creating fiber art for over 40 years now. But I like to break the traditional rules of stitchery. Needlework is usually neat\, tidy\, and quaint. But my pieces include torn fabric\, unfinished canvases\, and yarn extending outside the mat and frame. Also\, I like to add a dash of wit. Some of the subjects I explore with my art include politics\, nostalgia\, pop culture\, and the LGBTQ+ identity. \nThird Floor Gallery:  \nNick Mozak (he/him) \nArtist statement \nI am a Chicago-based abstract artist who brings a rich and layered approach to mixed media. Working with acrylic\, collage\, and found objects on paper and wood panel\, my paintings are deeply influenced by the textures of the urban landscape: the weathered beauty of aged buildings\, the mercurial movement of natural /artificial light and the diverse patterns found in nature. \nBefore dedicating fully to the current art practice\, I spent 40 years as a set and costume designer in both professional and academic theatre. That background continues to shape my creative process\, infusing the work with a keen sense of composition\, texture\, and storytelling. \nMy work has been exhibited across the Midwest\, Pacific Northwest\, California\, and New England\, and has been featured in contemporary art publications: Juniper Rag and Artist CloseUp.
