Meanwhile\, Natalie’s roommate Clay is trying to take the next step in his life – towards a new promotion\, away from a past relationship\, and into his own power. As all three maneuver through the ever-present reality of Olivia’s injury\, they find escape however they can. \nWINDOWS was developed through PrideArts’ Queery Playwrights Lab\, in which 33 scripts with an LGBTQ focus were submitted for consideration and six were selected for further development. Scenes from those six scripts were performed publicly\, and with the audience’s help\, WINDOWS was chosen for this full production\, to be directed by with QUEERY Festival Director Taylor Pasche.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for the opening reception featuring art by James Schenck on our 2nd floor and Erica Holman on our 3rd floor. Read artist statements below: \nJames Schenck (he/him): Flower Power \nJames Schenck’s newest series of flower drawings considers the connections between the body\, the bloom\, and the page. Drawn on newsprint with marker and gesso\, the works transform familiar floral forms into portraits—studies of vulnerability\, resilience\, and care. \nFor Schenck\, flowers are more than symbols of beauty. Like bodies\, they age\, bruise\, flourish\, and fade. The newsprint itself becomes an extension of this metaphor. Delicate and ephemeral\, the paper yellows over time\, recording its own passage through the world. Together\, flower\, body\, and page become interconnected vessels\, each carrying traces of experience\, memory\, and transformation. \nWorking from his personal archive and photographic references\, Schenck creates images that hover between observation and remembrance. Layers of marker and luminous gesso obscure and reveal forms\, echoing the ways we preserve\, revisit\, and reinterpret our own histories. The resulting drawings celebrate the beauty found not in permanence\, but in attention—the ways living things thrive when tended\, cared for\, and allowed to evolve. \nErica Holman (she/her) \nI am always observing people\, places\, and especially nature as I move through my life. Strongly contrasting elements and themes catch my eye and draw me in. Something rusty inside a lush garden\, water droplets splashing off scratchy concrete\, or shiny materials woven into a mixed-media piece—these are the kinds of details I enjoy exploring and playing with in my photography and artwork. \nThis creativity evolved through my professional work as an early childhood teacher\, where I brought art\, exploration\, and collaboration into my classrooms. Now I continue my journey of joy and discovery by working with photography\, watercolors\, acrylics\, and many other mixed-media materials. We see this as an opportunity for reflection\, grounding\, and connection—encouraging attendees to consider the role they can play in fostering safety\, belonging\, and care within their own communities and networks as well as expanding Center on Halsted’s demographic and geographic reach. \nThis event is in partnership with Queer Connections: Men of Color & Allies. \nFirst 30 registrations will come with a single drink ticket. Featuring opening sets by DJs Rulito & Nxt Lvl\, the mixer provides an intimate opportunity to get to know past and present AMPLIFY cohorts and form new connections within our Black queer creative ecosystem. \nTHE SHOWCASE Sunday\, July 5th 3-9pm | The festival’s main event takes over the Center’s third floor terrace with two simultaneous stages. Our stacked line-up includes local stars: Adonia\, Bonita Appleblunt\, Cobra B\, Dyaspara\, Harlem Masimba\, Love Marie\, Mobeethicc\, Ndulgnce\, Petty\, and Sukigeez. Powered by Red Bull\, we’re honored to host Houston’s HYPERFEMME for a high-energy headlining set to close out the night. \nAMPLIFY 2026 also highlights local community organizations serving Chicago’s Black\, LGBTQ+ community in a resource fair. Vendors include Jem Junkies tooth gems and grillz\, and a custom photobooth by Tonal Simmons. \nTickets benefit the Center on Halsted and PG’s Black queer mutual aid mission. We invite our queer community members and allies to join us and watch as we bring true stories of queer love\, laughter\, resilience\, connection\, and healing to life through the art of Playback Theatre- an interactive form of improvisational theatre centered around stories from the audience. Despite the trials and tribulations the queer community has and continues to face\, our joy shines through and thrives and we aim to amplify this joy through music\, improv and the power of community. \nWe strive to make our performances accessible to all. There is an elevator to the performance space. Chairs in the space are movable so we can make room for mobility devices. Donations accepted at the Volunteer desk. \nJoin us for the opening reception featuring art by Ms. Alexander Martin (she/her/hers) on our second floor and Noah Thomas (he/him) on our third floor. \nARTIST: Ms. Alexander Martin (she/her/hers) – My practice takes the largely oral and embodied tradition of my communities (Black\, Trans\, Queer\, Appalachian) and brings them into public\, academic\, and art spaces via mixed media work\, performance\, dance\, and education\, in an effort to shift the dominant canon. Through painting\, sculpture\, illustration\, performance\, and ritual\, my current work is documentation\, religious artifact\, lore\, and history\, of an imagined world that is Black\, Trans\, and Queer at its core. A world of Divine beings\, spirits\, practitioners\, demons\, all participating in an endless dance and cycle of self discovery\, growth\, empowerment\, and rebirth. With its own language (Qyrd) and pantheon of divine houses\, this work elevates cultural and historical elements of my communities to a space of celebration. It represents the endless cycle of growth\, healing\, re-birth\, survival\, and empowerment that is at the core of the queer experience. Ancestry\, legacy\, hardship\, what is passed down or carried on\, the cultural elements that survive or are invented\, are all reimagined through a lens of mythos.. \nARTIST: Noah Thomas (he/him) – Rooted in a rapidly changing world\, my works hold tightly to the feelings of growth and how we are shaped by our experiences. Within my series\, Wandering Through\, abstract forms shift in and out of uncanny and familiar shapes while navigating atmospheric and colorful dreamlike landscapes. My working method involves using sponges\, layering and glazing to capture textures that make a space feel real. Finding a delicate balance between the bold linework\, surreal color palettes\, and negative space is central to my works. I strive to create a harmonious relationship between the movement of the linework and shapes while preserving the contrast as the subjects dance throughout the negative space in the surreal environment. Visually inspired by my persistent desire to be outside\, memories\, and the beauty we find along the way\, the series reflects how we adapt to our surroundings and learn from the encounters that inevitably shape our lives and the organisms around us. My love for creating a world that can feel just as expressive as the subjects within the space has been a consistent unifying theme throughout my works. I aim to capture not only what a space looks like\, but how it feels to inhabit it. As the world continues to change\, my series invites us to slow down\, reflect\, and enjoy the moment you’re in while wandering through the experiences life has to offer.

DESCRIPTION:Queer Connections: Men of Color + Allies would like to host an intimate book launch and author conversation celebrating the work of Darius Bost\, award-winning scholar and co-author of a groundbreaking new book that centers Black queer voices across U.S. history.\nThe evening would feature a moderated panel-style interview with Darius Bost\, highlighting key themes from the book and exploring the intersection of Black history\, queerness\, gender expression\, and liberation movements. This conversation would be followed by a brief audience Q&A and an opportunity to connect over drinks. \nEvent Host: Mycall Akeem Riley\nAbout the Book\nThis landmark work is the first Black history text to center queer voices\, tracing the lives and contributions of LGBTQ+ Black Americans from slavery to the present day. Co-authored by Professors C. Riley Snorton and Darius Bost as part of Beacon Press’ award-winning ReVisioning History series\, the book examines how gender and sexual expression have always been integral to Black freedom struggles.\nThrough powerful storytelling and historical analysis\, the book uplifts figures such as Josephine Baker\, Bayard Rustin\, Private Cathay Williams\, and Amanda Milan\, while also addressing the marginalization\, criminalization\, and resistance of Black queer and trans communities.
