This conversation would be followed by a brief audience Q&A and an opportunity to connect over drinks. \nEvent Host: Mycall Akeem Riley\nAbout the Book\nThis landmark work is the first Black history text to center queer voices\, tracing the lives and contributions of LGBTQ+ Black Americans from slavery to the present day. Co-authored by Professors C. DESCRIPTION:Fight for the T in Team: Together We Win Panel & Community Dinner WHEN: Tuesday January 13\, 2026 6pm WHERE: Center on Halsted 3656 N Halsted St\, Chicago\, IL 60613 \nOn Jan. 13\, the U.S. Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in two cases that will shape the future of transgender and nonbinary (TNB) youth and people in this country: West Virginia v. BPJ and Little v. Hecox. These two cases represent two teenage girls from West Virginia and Idaho\, who sued just to be allowed to continue playing sports like any other student. And we are united as a Team for them! \nThe panel\, beginning at 6:30pm\, will break down the oral arguments and the potential impacts on the Equal Protection Clause and Title IX. A meal will follow\, allowing attendees to connect as a community. \nWHEN AND WHERE: ABOUT THE CASES: In these cases\, the Court will decide whether states can categorically bar transgender girls and women from participating on girls’ and women’s sports teams\, a direct challenge to the Equal Protection Clause and Title IX. A broad ruling could go even further\, opening the door to widespread discrimination against transgender people not only from playing sports but in every part of public life\, including a discriminatory shift in how youth participate in school activities and extracurricular programs. These cases go beyond laws and impact who we should respect as part of our communities\, what our public schools should be like and who they should serve\, and what role the government should play in our lives. \nWHY IS IT IMPORTANT: While our communities are worried about putting food on the table\, making rent\, losing healthcare\, or being disappeared by ICE\, politicians and billionaires are making our lives harder by spending millions of dollars to ignite unfounded fears about trans people in an attempt to divide us. The current administration is abusing his power to target our communities\, suppress dissent\, and create a climate of fear\, and some politicians are using these cases to legitimize discrimination and push trans and nonbinary people out of public life altogether. DESCRIPTION:The bawdy\, silly\, and immensely entertaining adult pantos by Britain’s Tom Whalley have become a popular holiday season tradition at PrideArts\, and the company will continue this tradition with its fourth Whalley panto – RAPORNZEL. Like its PrideArts predecessors JACK OFF THE BEANSTALK\, SLEEPING WITH BEAUTY\, and THROBBIN WOOD\, RAPORNZEL will fracture a famous fairy tale with unimaginable R-rated puns\, pop songs\, and audience participation\, all adding up to an outrageously good time. RAPORNZEL will be directed by Claire Hart Proepper of Laughing Stock Theatre\, the Evanston based theatre company specializing in Commedia dell’arte. The Italian tradition of Commedia dell’arte\, which flourished in the 16th Century\, was an influence on the genre of British pantos in its use of improvision\, exaggerated characters\, slapstick comedy\, and audience participation. Proepper’s experience in performing and directing Commedia dell’arte makes her uniquely qualified to bring the anarchic humor of Whalley’s panto to life.

DESCRIPTION:Description\n\n\nJoin us for a night of artwork in our second and third-floor gallery spaces. \nLearn more about the artists below: \nSecond Floor Gallery:  \nKevin Lustik\, (he/him) \nArtist Statement \nI’ve been creating fiber art for over 40 years now. But I like to break the traditional rules of stitchery. Needlework is usually neat\, tidy\, and quaint. But my pieces include torn fabric\, unfinished canvases\, and yarn extending outside the mat and frame. Also\, I like to add a dash of wit. Some of the subjects I explore with my art include politics\, nostalgia\, pop culture\, and the LGBTQ+ identity. \nThird Floor Gallery:  \nNick Mozak (he/him) \nArtist statement \nI am a Chicago-based abstract artist who brings a rich and layered approach to mixed media. Working with acrylic\, collage\, and found objects on paper and wood panel\, my paintings are deeply influenced by the textures of the urban landscape: the weathered beauty of aged buildings\, the mercurial movement of natural /artificial light and the diverse patterns found in nature. \nBefore dedicating fully to the current art practice\, I spent 40 years as a set and costume designer in both professional and academic theatre. That background continues to shape my creative process\, infusing the work with a keen sense of composition\, texture\, and storytelling. \nMy work has been exhibited across the Midwest\, Pacific Northwest\, California\, and New England\, and has been featured in contemporary art publications: Juniper Rag and Artist CloseUp.

Her deeply diaristic self-portraits are a fantasy and science-fiction steeped chapter in the autofictional tradition of Frida Kahlo\, Paula Rego\, and Sasha Gordon\, and her moody and personal still-lifes and cityscapes evoke moments of stillness amidst change. Born in Nashville\, Jane Thorn has lived in New Orleans\, Wuhan\, Portland\, and Glasgow\, and is currently based in Chicago. She holds a JD from Loyola University Chicago School of Law and a Masters in Fine Art Practice from the Glasgow School of Art. \nJessie Mott (She/Her) Artist statement \nJessie Mott is a Chicago-based visual artist whose practice focuses on themes of identity and power by exposing unstable perceptions of the queer body. Using an array of media such as painting\, drawing\, and animation\, she gives life to creatures that negotiate permeable boundaries. She is best known for her watercolor drawings of hybrid creatures that explore a perverse fascination with the natural world. Bound up in desire\, mourning\, and anxiety\, her work disrupts the margins of human and animal\, abstraction and figuration\, and interior and exterior worlds.
