SUMMARY:Queer Literary Horror Series Fun Run with Author David Jay Collins
DESCRIPTION:Four gay men\, four addictions\, one landlord from hell\, and one house that only they can see: what could go wrong? David Jay Collins\, the author of Lakeview-based LGBTQ novel Gaybash\, brings us this horror series set in Chicago’s Andersonville neighborhood. Whether you’re a horror bookworm\, Chicago fanatic\, or just looking for a spooky adventure on foot\, this is the perfect opportunity to meet fellow runners and talk about the Summerdale horror trilogy directly with the author! \nDuring this exciting gathering\, we’ll run easy-paced (11:00 min/mile) 3-mile run through the Andersonville streets where Collins uses the stories of characters\, Steve\, Eric\, David\, and Aaron to expose difficult\, problematic aspects within the gay community. Runners will get an insider scoop about the story and the writing process\, along with lesser-known Chicago history. \nFollowing the run\, we will hang at The Lost Hours for a group discussion with David from around 7:15-8pm. \nOne drink from The Lost Hours are included in the cost of the ticket and BONUS!—all runners will go home with a sample of Candyality’s spooky* caramel corn blend\, Summerdale Crunch!

SUMMARY:Running Tour of The Girls in 3-B with Gerber/Hart Library and Archives
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Pride Month this June with a celebration of legendary pulp fiction author Valerie Taylor on this 4-mile running tour in the Gold Coast/River North/Loop area starting and ending at Vuori (1003 N Rush Street). Taking inspiration from Taylor’s novel The Girls in 3-B\, Read & Run Chicago guide Quinn Rose will stop at real-life queer hangouts from Chicago history and discuss characters from The Girls in 3-B! Following the running tour\, we’ll end at Vuori (1003 N Rush Street) for a post-run snacks and lecture with Gerber/Hart Library and Archives Community Outreach and Strategic Partnerships Manager Jen Dentel. A portion of all ticket sales will be donated to Gerber/Hart Library and Archives. \nNot planning to run? Cyclists welcome (take care of your own safety\, please!) and ticket option to attend only the lecture portion. \nAll attendees will receive a mini-zine with a self-guided version of this running tour. \nAbout The Girls in 3-B: Iconic lesbian pulp author Valerie Taylor presents the story of three small-town Midwestern girls–Annice\, Pat\, and Barby–as they move to 1950s Chicago to seek work\, love\, and independence. A subversive exploration of relationship and workplace dynamics\, The Girls in 3-B offers a perspective grounded in the limitations of 1959 but searching for a bolder portrayal of women and sexuality.
