SUMMARY:United in Anger: Film Screening and Discussion with Sarah Schulman
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an early observation of World AIDS Day with a screening of United in Anger\, directed by Jim Hubbard. United in Anger is\, as described on the film’s website\, “an inspiring documentary about the birth and life of the AIDS activist movement from the perspective of the people in the trenches fighting the epidemic. United in Anger has a run time of 93 minutes. Seating will be first-come\, first-served. \nSarah Schulman is a novelist\, playwright\, nonfiction writer\, screenwriter\, and AIDS historian. She holds an endowed chair in Creative Writing at Northwestern\, and is on the advisory board of Jewish Voice for Peace. The Fantasy and Necessity of Solidarity is her 21st book. \n© United in Anger\, Inc | 93 minutes | Not Rated \nAccessibility\nEnglish subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing will be available for this screening. \nNeed sign language interpretation or other accessibility assistance for this event? SUMMARY:Panel: LGBTQ+ Intergenerational Dialogue Project
DESCRIPTION:Let’s connect! Chicago Public Library’s Bezazian Branch and the LGBTQ+ Intergenerational Dialogue Project invite you to a panel discussion full of hope\, joy\, experience\, and personal stories. We will bring together racially\, socioeconomically\, and gender diverse cohorts of LGBTQ+ college students and older adults (60+) for a night of themed dialogues\, and personal reflection on what it means to be transgender. The project began with a simple question: what might we learn about our own experiences through deep conversations with those younger or older than us? Specifically\, what might we learn about what it means to be a part of the LGBTQ+ community in the past\, present\, and future? Story-telling will be the focus of this intergenerational dialogue. We will spend the first hour of the program listening to folks talk about their personal experiences ending with a Q&A session. If you’re interested in learning\, allyship\, connecting with your neighbors\, and fostering love and acceptance\, this is the place for you! \nThis program is designed for adults 18+ and will be held in person. \nAccessibility\nNeed sign language interpretation or other accessibility assistance for this event? Please call (312) 747-8184 or email access@chipublib.org to request accommodations. Requests must be made at least 14 business days before the event.
