Elizabeth should be his easiest target\, having been labeled a “witch” and cast out by the town\, but her soul is not so readily bought. As the devil returns to convince her – and then returns again – unexpected passions flare\, alliances are formed and the village is forever changed. An inventive retelling of a Jacobean drama\, this sharp\, subversive fable debates how much our souls are worth when hope is hard to come by. \nThe performance schedule is Thursdays\, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m.\, with an added Wednesday performance on October 7 at 8 p.m. General admission tickets are now on sale for $20 and $30\, with $50 “pay it forward” tickets that assist in subsidizing tickets for those who may not be able to access the production otherwise. Jessica Lawless’s memoir is a queer\, anarcho-punk history of community care and healing justice. \nAn original member of Home Alive\, the Seattle-based\, feminist self-defense collective founded as a response to the unsolved rape and murder of a beloved friend\, Lawless takes the reader into subcultural spaces of the 1980s and ’90s where anticapitalist concepts of race\, gender\, and sexuality were developing against the backdrop of the Christian right’s early culture wars. \nDigging into their personal archive of pre-internet flyers\, meeting notes\, zines\, photos\, newsletters\, exhibition announcements\, journals\, and funeral programs\, Lawless explores the somatic impacts of remembering and forgetting. Her attempts to leave violence in the past lead her to the institutional violence of academia\, the absurdity of the Los Angeles art world\, the crushing poverty of cyclical subemployment as an adjunct professor\, and the heartbreak of working in the labor movement. \nReflecting on the past while entering menopause\, Lawless crafts a narrative that twists and turns along a winding path\, continually rejecting normative conclusions. Cultural Capital Doesn’t Pay the Rent is a moving account of abolitionist feminist resistance that will inspire anyone who’s experienced the hopes and hypocrisies of leftist activism.

Each installment ‘chapters’ of The Uncanny Attic creates imagined histories for four of Gorey’s ill-fated characters as told through puppetry\, clowning\, dance\, live music\, drag\, stop-motion animation\, and visual theater. \nSet inside the mysterious attic of an abandoned house on the cape and narrated by a family of resident raccoons\, each chapter is a self-contained theatrical journey into the camp macabre world of the fictional town\, Willowdale. DESCRIPTION:Life is a Queer Cabaret invites performers to reclaim traditional musical theatre roles by transforming them through a queer lens. \nWe are back to basics with our sixth installment of Life Is A Queer Cabaret! Let’s take a night to celebrate and dissect the characters and songs that aren’t usually seen through a queer lens. \nAs performers\, our identities hold meaning. And our own lived experiences can change the context and the narrative itself for any role we might play. Without changing the lyrics (or even the pronouns!) within a musical theatre song\, how do our experiences and identities as queer people reinvent the context of even the most classic golden age musicals? This project is all about gender-fuckery\, breaking the binary\, and queering the musical theatre canon.

SUMMARY:Metropolis Performing Arts Centre Presents “Ride the Cyclone\,” September 16 - October 25
DESCRIPTION:Metropolis Performing Arts Centre\, located in the heart of downtown Arlington Heights\, 111 W. Campbell St.\, is proud to announce the cast and creative team for Ride the Cyclone\, September 16 – October 25. Ride the Cyclone is presented with book\, music and lyrics by Jacob Richmond and Brooke Maxwell. The Metropolis production is directed by original American cast member Lillian Castillo\, and music directed by Carolyn Brady. \nIn a now-abandoned theme park not so long ago\, six teenagers hurtled to their death on the roller coaster The Cyclone. Now\, those teens are back from the afterlife\, with all of their unlived dreams\, potential\, hopes\, and fears in tow. They grapple with the lives they led on Earth and the choices they made – all except a mysterious and headless girl named Jane Doe\, who has no memory of her past. As instructed by a fortune-telling machine named The Amazing Karnak\, the teens need to decide who amongst them will receive the gift of returning to their life. As they fight to be the one to return\, they realize that life’s ups and downs\, tragedies and victories\, love and loss are all just part of the ride. \nAn added bonus to the Metropolis production features Director Lillian Castillo. Castillo is the original “Constance” on the world premiere cast recording. She originated the role in the American premiere at Chicago Shakespeare Theater and continued performing in the Off-Broadway\, Seattle and Atlanta productions. \nThe regular performance schedule is Thursdays and Fridays at 7:30 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays at 2 and 7:30 p.m. The performance on Saturday\, Sept. 26 at 2 p.m. will be closed captioned and the performance on Thursday\, Oct. 8 at 7:30 p.m. will be ASL interpreted.
