Designed with transgender\, nonbinary\, and LGBTQ+ youth and young adults in mind\, this event will create an affirming space for storytelling\, connection\, education\, and celebration. \nThe evening will introduce attendees to Zia Varajon’s work while raising funds to support both the author and Center on Halsted’s Youth & Family Services through ticket sales. The usual lesbian drama is disrupted by the arrival of a newly single straight woman who quickly realizes she’s not as straight as she thought. A story about chosen family\, visibility\, love and loss\, Bluefish Cove was the first lesbian play to open at a mainstream New York Theater for its premiere in 1980. \n𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴: period typical homophobia and internalized homophobia\, and discussion of illness and death.

DESCRIPTION:In 1948 the Chicago Tribune reported that Capt. John J. Walsh was cracking down on gay bars in the River North neighborhood. Walsh insisted that the bar owners remove any coverings on the windows of the bars so the cops could observe what was going on inside. This insistence of observation recalls what Michel Foucault called “panopticonism\,” a way that the state exerts control by ensuring that everyone knows they can be observed at any time. SUMMARY:“The Last Word\,” an Adventure Screenplay with a Cocktail Experience\, Announces Summer Performances
DESCRIPTION:The Last Word\, created by Declan Grogan\, announces performance dates each month from May to August\, at the iO Theater\, 1501 N. Kingsbury St. \nThe Last Word is the ONLY craft cocktail progression paired with a screenplay. The story is based on Chartreuse\, a real-life liqueur that sells millions of bottles every year\, but only two people in the world know how to make it. When Mike finds one dying in the woods and is given the only known copy of the recipe\, he has to decide whether to return it to the monastery that keeps it safe or die trying. Audiences may experience a high-action comedy script complete with lights\, sound\, music and other fun surprises throughout the night\, including four cocktails crafted specifically for each act of the show. Finally\, at The Last Word\, there is only one rule: No one knows what will happen tonight. Content warning: flashing lights\, loud sounds\, profanity and depictions of violence. \nThe performance schedule is Thursday\, May 28 at 7 p.m.\, followed by Friday\, June 26\, Friday\, July 31 and Friday\, August 28 at 7 p.m. Ticket prices are $50 for both general admission and the drink package\, which includes four specialty cocktails and $20 for general admission tickets without the cocktail experience.
