SUMMARY:The Metal Shop Performance Lab & JunkHeart Present “Anatomy of a Suicide\,” August 12 - 30
DESCRIPTION:Produced in partnership with JunkHeart\, The Metal Shop Performance Lab is proud to present Anatomy of a Suicide\, August 12 – 30\, at Redtwist Theatre\, 1044 W Bryn Mawr Ave\, Chicago\, written by Alice Birch and directed by Alex Mallory. \nAnatomy of a Suicide follows three generations of women; a mother\, a daughter and a granddaughter\, whose individual stories are being told simultaneously. For each\, the pain and chaos of the women who came before them force them to question whether they will be able to escape this deeply rooted legacy and instead make their own. Alice Birch’s Susan Smith Blackburn Prize-winning play is an intimate exploration of inter-generational trauma\, told across three interlinking narratives. \nThe regular performance schedule is Wednesdays\, Thursdays\, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 3:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 – $35 and may be purchased starting June 1 by visiting TheMetalShop.org. \n(Image L to R): Tatiana Pavela\, Taigé Lauren and Isabel Lee Roden

SUMMARY:Chicago Queer History Walking Tours: Dive Keepers on North Clark Get Warnings
DESCRIPTION:In 1948 the Chicago Tribune reported that Capt. John J. Walsh was cracking down on gay bars in the River North neighborhood. Walsh insisted that the bar owners remove any coverings on the windows of the bars so the cops could observe what was going on inside. This insistence of observation recalls what Michel Foucault called “panopticonism\,” a way that the state exerts control by ensuring that everyone knows they can be observed at any time. This walking tour covers the sites Walsh visited with his warnings and tells the stories of what happened before\, and after the crackdown. \nTime: Saturday August 29\, 1 pm\nStart: Chicago Water Tower (801 N Michigan Ave)\nEnd: 2nd Story Bar (157 E Ohio St #2)\nDistance: apx 2 miles \nThe University of Illinois Chicago Gender and Sexuality Center presents a series of Chicago Queer History Walking Tours for Summer 2026.
