SUMMARY:Life is a Queer Cabaret: a night of musical theatre & queer joy
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a cabaret of performers challenging the typical gender roles of musical theatre pieces. Don’t miss this sellout event!\n\n\n\nWithout changing anything in the text itself (pronouns\, description\, action\, etc)\, how does an identity change the way an audience engages with a character? What does it mean for Cabaret’s Emcee to be played by a woman? For Jack Kelly to be queer? For Audrey or Seymour to be played by trans actors? \nIdentities hold significance\, and with a backlog of many cis\, often straight or straight-assumed characters\, there is value in exploring and changing the narrative of musical theatre works. Whether it be for a nuanced dramatic effect or a comedic one\, we want to see musical theatre gender-fuckery (and beyond) at play! \nFEATURING: Essential Invisible\, Wesley Beyers\, Makenna Van Raalte\, Felicia Hinojosa \, Michael Davis Arnold\, Gina Saglimbeni \, Emely Cuestas\, Jacque Bischoff\, Reva Sangal\, Cas Lam & Rogelio Castro. \nDoors at 6pm with a one hour happy hour before the performances begin at 7pm. Dorothy remains open after the show until 11pm. \nTickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. \nDorothy is 21+ and requires physical ID for all to enter. Dorothy is also ADA accessible with elevator access on Campbell Ave. If you are a guest who requires elevator access\, please wait by the black door on Campbell Ave with our logo in the window and call our staff to assist: 773-770-3799 \nPlease note: refund requests are only available until 24h before the show (11/19\, 7pm). No other refund requests will be honored.

SUMMARY:Trans Day of Remembrance Candlelight Vigil
DESCRIPTION:Transgender Day of Remembrance – Candlelight Vigil & Memorial Walk \nHosted by the Second City Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence\n\n\n\nJoin us as we honor the lives of our Trans siblings whose light was taken too soon.\nOn Transgender Day of Remembrance\, we gather not only to mourn\, but to bear witness\, to uplift community\, and to recommit ourselves to the sacred work of justice\, compassion\, and visibility.\n\n\n\n Our Tradition Continues\nFollowing the beautiful ritual established last year\, we will begin with a brief memorial service inside the Center on Halsted. We will share blessings—including the candle blessing preserved in our archives by the Candlewickes—along with words of reflection\, remembrance\, and hope.\n\n\n\nAfter the service\, we will move outside for a candlelight vigil\, walking together in a slow\, respectful loop along Halsted—southbound\, then northbound—illuminating the night with intention\, presence\, and love.\n\n\n\n Details\n Location: Center on Halsted\n Meet-up: 6:45pm–7:00pm inside the Center\n Blessings Begin: Shortly after 7:00pm\n Vigil Walk: Immediately following the memorial service\n\n\n\nEveryone is welcome—Sisters\, Guards\, community members\, loved ones\, and allies—to help us hold space\, speak names\, and shine light against violence and erasure.\n\n\n\nLet us walk together. SUMMARY:3670\, screening at Facets
DESCRIPTION:IN-PERSON FILM EVENT. In 3670\, a North Korean defector in Seoul quietly navigates two worlds: one shaped by exile and another by his awakening queer identity. Joonho Park’s feature debut is a moving\, understated portrait of belonging and self-discovery\, illuminating a rarely seen intersection of Korean life with grace\, empathy\, and cinematic restraint. Cheol-jun\, a young North Korean defector\, has built a fragile new life in Seoul. To his fellow defectors\, he’s a quiet\, hardworking man—yet he conceals another truth: he’s gay. Living between fear and desire\, he begins exploring Seoul’s underground queer community\, where coded messages like “3670” (“Meet at Exit 6\, Jongno 3-ga\, 7 p.m.”) mark places of connection and refuge. As Cheol-jun’s double life deepens\, he struggles to reconcile the two versions of himself—the dutiful newcomer seeking acceptance and the man craving freedom and intimacy. Park’s patient\, observational style transforms the ordinary—bus rides\, casual chats\, late-night walks—into moments of aching humanity.

Like its PrideArts predecessors JACK OFF THE BEANSTALK\, SLEEPING WITH BEAUTY\, and THROBBIN WOOD\, RAPORNZEL will fracture a famous fairy tale with unimaginable R-rated puns\, pop songs\, and audience participation\, all adding up to an outrageously good time. RAPORNZEL will be directed by Claire Hart Proepper of Laughing Stock Theatre\, the Evanston based theatre company specializing in Commedia dell’arte. The Italian tradition of Commedia dell’arte\, which flourished in the 16th Century\, was an influence on the genre of British pantos in its use of improvision\, exaggerated characters\, slapstick comedy\, and audience participation. Proepper’s experience in performing and directing Commedia dell’arte makes her uniquely qualified to bring the anarchic humor of Whalley’s panto to life.

Martínez Colón.\n\n\n\nFunding for direct service and research for HIV has been decimated\, AIDS denialists have a champion leading the Department of Health and Human Services\, and international programs like PEPFAR have been destroyed. Martínez Colón. \nTracy Baim is executive director of Press Forward Chicago\, a pooled fund for community journalism based at The Chicago Community Trust. She is Artistic Director of StoryStudio Chicago. \nDeep into her fourth career\, Victoria Noe is a Chicago-based award-winning author\, speaker and activist with two degrees in theater. Her Friend Grief series – the result of a promise she made to a dying friend – recognizes the importance of friendships in shaping our lives and illuminates an often disrespected form of grief. Her 2023 book\, What Our Friends Left Behind: Grief and Laughter in a Pandemic\, shares the challenges faced by people who grieved a friend during COVID. SUMMARY:World AIDS Day commemoration with Wrightwood 659 and the Joffrey Ballet
DESCRIPTION:Wrightwood 659 and The Joffrey Ballet proudly announce a special World AIDS Day commemoration honoring those lost to the epidemic to be held at Wrightwood 659 (659 Wrightwood Avenue) Thursday\, December 4\, at 5:30pm. World AIDS Day\, officially December 1\, is a global movement to unite people in the fight against HIV and AIDS. Since 1988\, communities have stood together on World AIDS Day to show strength and solidarity against HIV stigma and to remember lives lost. \nThe Joffrey Ballet was deeply affected during this period\, losing several remarkable artists\, including Company Founder Robert Joffrey at age 59 and his protégé Edward Stierle at just 23. Following Joffrey’s passing\, Stierle choreographed Lacrymosa and\, while on his own deathbed\, completed Empyrean. As noted in a New York Times interview\, Stierle’s dance partner observed\, “Where Lacrymosa was about death\, Empyrean is about celebration and hope.” \nThis public program will feature opening remarks by Greg Cameron\, Joffrey Ballet President & CEO; a screening of Empyrean and discussion; and a memorial segment inviting attendees to share reflections and memories of those lost to AIDS.  Tickets for this special program are complimentary with paid admission to Wrightwood 659. \nWrightwood 659 is currently mounting The Joffrey + Ballet in the U.S.\, a large-scale exhibition celebrating the rich history of The Joffrey Ballet. The exhibition premiered at The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center in 2024\, marking the first major retrospective of the company. Drawing from the Joffrey archive\, acquired by the Jerome Robbins Dance Division in 2017 as the Library’s largest acquisition in a decade\, the exhibition offers an in-depth look at the Joffrey’s contributions to ballet in the U.S. Highlights include rare film from the original performance of the groundbreaking ballet Astarte and Anna Sokolow’s Opus 65\, as well as costumes\, props\, pointe shoes\, posters\, correspondence\, and other ephemera from the company and the life of Robert Joffrey. The Joffrey + Ballet in the U.S. is organized by The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts and curated by Dr. Julia Foulkes with assistance from Nicole Duffy. It is presented at Wrightwood 659 by Alphawood Exhibitions. \n  \nAlso on view at Wrightwood 659 through December 20\, 2025\, are Scott Burton: Shape Shift\, which examines the legacy of Scott Burton (1939–1989)\, an American original whose wide-ranging practice anticipated many of the strategies of today’s art; and Ellen Altfest: Forever\, an intimate selection of oil paintings by the American representational painter.

SUMMARY:Center on Halsted Art Gallery Opening
DESCRIPTION:Description\n\n\nJoin us for a night of artwork in our second and third-floor gallery spaces. \nLearn more about the artists below: \nSecond Floor Gallery:  \nKevin Lustik\, (he/him) \nArtist Statement \nI’ve been creating fiber art for over 40 years now. But I like to break the traditional rules of stitchery. Needlework is usually neat\, tidy\, and quaint. But my pieces include torn fabric\, unfinished canvases\, and yarn extending outside the mat and frame. Also\, I like to add a dash of wit. Some of the subjects I explore with my art include politics\, nostalgia\, pop culture\, and the LGBTQ+ identity. \nThird Floor Gallery:  \nNick Mozak (he/him) \nArtist statement \nI am a Chicago-based abstract artist who brings a rich and layered approach to mixed media. Working with acrylic\, collage\, and found objects on paper and wood panel\, my paintings are deeply influenced by the textures of the urban landscape: the weathered beauty of aged buildings\, the mercurial movement of natural /artificial light and the diverse patterns found in nature. \nBefore dedicating fully to the current art practice\, I spent 40 years as a set and costume designer in both professional and academic theatre. That background continues to shape my creative process\, infusing the work with a keen sense of composition\, texture\, and storytelling. \nMy work has been exhibited across the Midwest\, Pacific Northwest\, California\, and New England\, and has been featured in contemporary art publications: Juniper Rag and Artist CloseUp.
