SUMMARY:Steppenwolf: The Big Reveal Live Show
DESCRIPTION:Show runs August 1 – August 3 \nGlobal drag icon Sasha Velour (HBO’s We’re Here\, RuPaul’s Drag Race) brings her latest theatrical spectacular\, The Big Reveal Live Show to Chicago after sold out shows across the US and Europe. \nKnown for her emotional\, thoughtful and crowd-shaking reveals\, The Big Reveal Live Show takes things to a whole new level as Velour goes further than she ever has before. Grounded in classic theater\, the show takes on many forms over the course of 90 minutes: high-concept lip sync performances\, artful oration\, childhood film footage\, video art and more. The Big Reveal Live Show shows this superstar at her most playful and hilarious. From the show’s whip smart comedic script and side-splitting gags\, she uses comedy as a way to disarm audiences and hit them with emotional truths. The show’s drag performances are accompanied by a diverse soundtrack ranging from Stevie Wonder to Britney Spears\, Stephen Sondheim to Deep Purple. \nCopies of Velour’s book\, The Big Reveal: An Illustrated Manifesto of Drag\, will be available for sale at the show and purchasers will have a chance to get their copy signed by Velour after the performance.

SUMMARY:The Bi Wives Club: A Comedy Showcase
DESCRIPTION:Put this bi-monthly meeting on your calendar: it’s the summertime edition of The Bi Wives Club! Not bi? No problem. Come laugh! \nThe Bi Wives Club is not just for married bisexual women; it’s a comedy showcase for all outsiders who hide in plain sight. There’s nothing interesting about fitting the mold\, and the Bi Wives have happily stopped trying. \nThe show has rapidly become an audience favorite that frequently sells out well in advance. The production is playful\, intimate\, and reliably hilarious. Our audiences praise the humor\, atmosphere\, and the show’s sense of community and connection. \nHosted by Kris Lantzy\, Christen Manville and Kayla McCaffrey\, this month’s featured comedians include Hoja López\, Maureen Nolan\, Grace Kilpatrick & Cameron Gillette. \nDoors at 6pm with a one hour happy hour before our show begins at 7pm! Dorothy remains open after the show until 11pm.

SUMMARY:Queen For A Day
DESCRIPTION:Runs through Sunday August 3rd\nHeavy is the head that wears the crown. Haughty is the homo that designs the gown. \nHell in a Handbag Productions is pleased to conclude its 2024/25 Season with the world premiere of QUEEN FOR A DAY written by ensemble member Tyler Anthony Smith and directed by Stephanie Shaw. \nAmerican fashion designer Roy Halston Frowick (Will Lidke)\, known to the world simply as Halston\, is down on his luck. He’s packing up his chic-as-hell Olympic Tower office for reasons he doesn’t want to discuss. To make matters worse\, Elizabeth I (Tyler Anthony Smith) is knocking on his door. Yes\, Elizabeth I\, whose reign as Queen of England spanned from 1558 to 1603. But it’s 1984 in New York City. All that time spent at Studio 54 might be starting to catch up to the King of Minimalism’s brain. \nElizabeth I demands that Roy (who hates being called that) make her a new gown to (she lets out a singular cough) die in. Oh\, and she needs it by the end of the day\, even though he seems to be in the midst of a breakdown. He takes her money and agrees\, and the unlikely pair moves forward with the design of a lifetime. That is until Halston has to help his best friend\, Liza Minnelli (Dakota Hughes)\, with her new act. Any questions? \nRun time is approximately 75 minutes\, no intermission. Late seating is not guaranteed and at the discretion of house management. \nThe Bramble Arts Loft is located on the second floor of Andersonville’s historic Capital Garage building. It is accessible via an elevator.

SUMMARY:The First Homosexuals: The Birth of a New Identity\, 1869-1939
DESCRIPTION:The First Homosexuals: The Birth of a New Identity\, 1869-1939 explores a sea change in how society regarded homosexuality in the wake of the coining of the term “homosexual” in 1869. Before this watershed moment\, same-sex desire marked something you did\, not necessarily something you were. The First Homosexuals examines how\, for the first time\, homosexuals were cleaved from the rest of the population and given an identity which turned on their sexuality. Since the invention of the “homosexual\,” sexuality has become totalizing\, determining who you are at your core. A little over two years ago while still in the midst of the global pandemic\, Wrightwood 659 offered a taste of this upcoming exhibition’s approach and scope in a small preview entitled The First Homosexuals: Global Depictions of a New Identity\, 1869-1930. \nRuns May 2 – July 26\, 2025

SUMMARY:Lily Tomlin: The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life on the Universe
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, July 24\, 1:00 p.m. | Actress Lily Tomlin will join us IN PERSON to introduce the new restoration of THE SEARCH FOR SIGNS OF INTELLIGENT LIFE ON THE UNIVERSE and take a few questions from the audience before the film! \nJane Wagner created this one-woman show for Lily Tomlin in 1985 so that audiences could appreciate not just Tomlin’s comic timing but also her extraordinary acting talent. Tomlin inhabits 12 characters in this tour-de-force anchored by bag lady Trudy\, an everywoman for all time. As Tomlin explained onstage at the restoration’s world premiere\, “Trudy is a philosopher: the wise fool.” Asked by Jane Fonda\, her comrade-in-arms and the evening’s moderator\, if she sees any signs of intelligent life in the universe at the moment\, Tomlin replied\, “I see a lot of intelligence\, but we apply that intelligence so stupidly.”  IndieCollect created this new 4K digital restoration by combining scans of the 108-minute original 35mm negative and filling in with 9 minutes of the best surviving 117-min 35mm print. All scanning was done in 6.5K to produce a true 4K version.
