Dance goes from 7:00 to 9:30.\nBeginners welcome and encouraged to come for the pre-dance lesson. \nAdmission by suggested donation of $10\, paid at the door. (Cash preferred\, but we also have a Venmo option)\nNo one turned away for lack of funds. \nIn order to make sure our space is welcoming and accessible to as much of the community as possible\, we require all dancers to wear masks. Musicians\, the caller\, and sound technicians may be unmasked in the hall. We’ll have plenty available to hand out if you don’t have one. We are no longer requiring proof of vaccination\, but we expect those who can be vaccinated have done so. \nThis is a space for everyone to feel welcome and loved. DESCRIPTION:Across Illinois and the nation\, trans youth are under attack. From hospital systems quietly canceling gender-affirming care to state and federal actions undermining protections and shutting down necessary emergency services\, our youth are being systematically stripped of their right to exist\, thrive\, and receive affirming and lifesaving medical and mental health care.\nThis is a state of emergency. Illinois is a sanctuary state\, but even here\, major institutions are walking back care without warning or accountability. These decisions leave families in crisis and send a dangerous message: that trans lives are disposable. \n\nJoin us as we take to the streets to demand: \n\nThe immediate restoration and expansion of gender-affirming care for trans youth in Illinois in alignment with the Illinois Human Rights Act and internationally accepted medical recommendations. \n\nA public commitment from elected officials and healthcare providers defending trans youth rights at every level.\nRestoration and future protection of necessary emergency services provided through 988 suicide prevention line for LGBTQ+ youth including the contract with The Trevor Project. \n\nThis is a call to action for trans youth\, families\, providers\, allies\, organizers\, and anyone who refuses to be silent while care is actively taken away from our most vulnerable. \n\nBring your signs\, your voices\, and your rage. Haughty is the homo that designs the gown. \nHell in a Handbag Productions is pleased to conclude its 2024/25 Season with the world premiere of QUEEN FOR A DAY written by ensemble member Tyler Anthony Smith and directed by Stephanie Shaw. \nAmerican fashion designer Roy Halston Frowick (Will Lidke)\, known to the world simply as Halston\, is down on his luck. He’s packing up his chic-as-hell Olympic Tower office for reasons he doesn’t want to discuss. To make matters worse\, Elizabeth I (Tyler Anthony Smith) is knocking on his door. Yes\, Elizabeth I\, whose reign as Queen of England spanned from 1558 to 1603. But it’s 1984 in New York City. All that time spent at Studio 54 might be starting to catch up to the King of Minimalism’s brain. \nElizabeth I demands that Roy (who hates being called that) make her a new gown to (she lets out a singular cough) die in. Oh\, and she needs it by the end of the day\, even though he seems to be in the midst of a breakdown. He takes her money and agrees\, and the unlikely pair moves forward with the design of a lifetime. That is until Halston has to help his best friend\, Liza Minnelli (Dakota Hughes)\, with her new act. Any questions? \nRun time is approximately 75 minutes\, no intermission.
