SUMMARY:Chicago History Museum: Designing for Change: Chicago Protest Art of the 1960s–70s
DESCRIPTION:Exhibit runs through November 2\, 2025 \nChicago activists in the 1960s and ’70s used design to create powerful slogans\, symbols\, and imagery to amplify their visions for social change. In Designing for Change: Chicago Protest Art of the 1960s–70s\, see more than 100 posters\, fliers\, signs\, buttons\, newspapers\, magazines\, and books from the era\, expressing often radical ideas about race\, war\, gender equality\, and sexuality that challenged mainstream culture of the time. \nAs racism\, war\, gender inequality\, and LGBTQIA+ discrimination remain enduring issues shaped by today’s complex world\, also see works from a new generation of artivists upholding the city’s rich legacy of protest art to fight for social change.

SUMMARY:Blacklisted: Songs McCarthy Didn't Want You To Hear
DESCRIPTION:Written & Directed by Carla Gordon \nMusic Directed by Beckie Menzie \nFeat. Gordon\, Menzie\, David Meulemans & more to be announced! \nAll proceeds will benefit Season of Concern \nIn the post-World War II years\, many famous American singers and songwriters were denied the opportunity to make artistic contributions\, accused by Senator Joseph McCarthy’s House Un-American Activities Committee to be communists or sympathizers. \nThey were silenced. \nIn Blacklisted\, some of Chicago’s finest cabaret talent perform a concert of songs written or made famous by blacklisted artists such as Leonard Bernstein\, Yip Harburg\, Lena Horne\, Zero Mostel\, Paul Robeson\, Pete Seeger\, and more! \nBlacklisted has previously played to sold-out houses at the Illinois Holocaust Museum\, Acorn Theater and the Skokie Theatre. The Chicago Tribune raved: “Inspired idea…moving narrative.” \nAbout Season of Concern \nFounded in 1987\, Season of Concern Chicago is dedicated to providing financial assistance to all Chicagoland theater practitioners impacted by illness\, injury or circumstance. SOC provides short-term emergency financial aid to theater workers through both The Biscotto-Miller Fund and The Malcolm Ewen Emergency Fund. Originally formed to assist those afflicted with AIDS-related illnesses\, Season of Concern continues to support Chicago-based direct care HIV/AIDS organizations and has expanded its mission and support to meet the greater health needs of the Chicagoland theater community. Season of Concern relies on fundraising and donations to complete its mission\, and to date has distributed more than $4 million to those in need.

SUMMARY:Angry Fags\, presented by Ghostlight Ensemble
DESCRIPTION:An out lesbian state senator is up for re-election. Her female opponent is a moderate conservative who has aligned herself with right-wing extremists. They’re locked in a tight race in which each side caters to its base and any event can become instantaneously politicized. \nWhen a gay man is bashed with a baseball bat and left to die\, his ex-boyfriend\, a campaign aide for the incumbent senator\, is enraged. But his boss’s unwillingness to label it a hate crime tips him over the edge. Frustration and fear eventually turn to rage and he teams up with his best friend to embark on a vendetta of sabotage and more\, reasoning that if gays aren’t respected enough to win justice\, fear will achieve what good intentions and politics cannot. \nAngry Fags asks what do we do with our righteous anger? Who do we turn to when we exist within a system that does not protect us\, care for us\, or keep us safe? \nAngry Fags is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Samuel French\, Inc. www.concordtheatricals.com. \nAngry Fags is part of Ghostlight’s 9th Season celebrating otherness and uplifting Queer characters and voices.

SUMMARY:Lakeside Pride Symphonic Band Presents The Roman Carnival
DESCRIPTION:Lakeside Pride Music Ensembles invites you to examine the duality of humanity with our 29th season – “Harmony and Discord.” \nLebanese-American poet Kahlil Gibran once wrote that we “are suspended like scales between sorrow and joy.” These emotions profoundly impact the decisions we make\, and in turn\, we are bombarded with each other’s symphonies and cacophonies. It is through organizations like Lakeside Pride that members can celebrate the harmonious times and support through the discordant times\, however overwhelming they may be. Join us in exploring how our community embraces this polarity\, keeping a constant eye on the horizon together.
