SUMMARY:The Abnormal Heart
DESCRIPTION:Winner of the Off-Broadway United Solo Pride Award and celebrated sold-out Hollywood Fringe run\, “The Abnormal Heart” is an unmissable solo piece by dynamic performer and writer\, Parker Mills. From pretending to be a born-again Christian to a short stint in phone sex\, and even narrowly escaping death while dressed as a gorilla\, Parker’s journey celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the idea that a heart never truly breaks\, it just gets banged up a little. \nDirected by Marilyn McIntyre and produced by Dawn Sebock. \nTrailer for the show : https://youtu.be/ELqzHXhWSZk?si=M2lSpJ7voSWDs_XV

SUMMARY:Red Velvet Riot and Ellis Centric Present Here: in our bodies
DESCRIPTION:This interdisciplinary cabaret production combines puppetry\, performance art\, drag and burlesque to explore the unique relationships we have to our bodies — as a whole or in parts — and to ourselves. \nRed Velvet Riot and Ellis Centric are the combined forces behind HERE: productions\, a company rooted in the belief of art as embodied imagination\, political critique\, and societal cross-examination. Since 2024\, the company has produced at the Newport Theater (HERE: at the end of the world\, HERE: in our bodies) while also creating a recurring community engagement series (HERE: together) and is currently in development for two new productions. \nUsing the stage as a medium to express\, reflect\, share\, and organize\, presented shows question social and political beliefs while building interdisciplinary cabaret performances around a central narrative. Productions weave multidisciplinary theatrical elements including original sound and video projections\, drag\, burlesque\, acrobatics\, performance art\, as well as puppetry and crafted props. \nAbout the Artists\nHere: in our bodies features performances by Derry-éire\, Ellis Centric\, Eva La Feva\, Goodie Sesso\, Hooch Mane\, OCdeez Nuts\, Red Velvet Riot\, Tender Blossom\, Tyler C. SUMMARY:MY LIFE AS A COWBOY
DESCRIPTION:MY LIFE AS A COWBOY \nA queer coming-of-age comedy by Hugo Timbrell \nOpen Space Arts proudly continues its momentum of introducing Chicago audiences to powerful new queer stories with another American premiere—building on our Jeff Award–recognized tradition of bold\, contemporary\, boundary-pushing theatre. In our intimate 25-seat storefront space\, innovative new work comes to life just inches from the audience\, creating an immediacy and emotional impact that few venues can replicate. \nWith My Life as a Cowboy\, OSA once again brings an exciting international voice to the city\, championing playwrights whose stories radiate humor\, heart\, and the complexity of queer identity. This production continues our mission to uplift new playwrights\, celebrate queer joy\, and offer Chicago fresh\, adventurous theatre that can’t be found anywhere else. \nAbout the Play \nSeventeen-year-old Conor is restless in Croydon and craving something—anything—that feels bigger than his life so far. When he impulsively decides to enter a country-and-western dance competition\, two unlikely allies jump in with him: Michael\, his fellow lifeguard at the local leisure centre\, and Zainab\, razor-sharp\, big-hearted\, and never short on opinions. \nWhat begins as a half-joke turns into a joyful\, chaotic\, and deeply human journey of reinvention. As the trio rehearse and collide\, they discover trust\, courage\, and the unexpected power of leaning on one another. Their path to the stage is messy\, hilarious\, and full of heart—proving that even the smallest dreams can transform a life when shared with the right people. \nRooted in humor\, queer joy\, and a celebration of chosen family\, My Life as a Cowboy is a vibrant new play about identity\, community\, and daring to dance toward the life you imagine for yourself.

SUMMARY:STAY HUMAN YOU ANIMAL!
DESCRIPTION:STAY HUMAN YOU ANIMAL!\, a one-person show starring Fred Cavair Robinson\, featuring 10 short plays with true stories\, videos\, and original songs about growing up Black\, Queer\, and Weird in the “wild.” SHYA! doesn’t take place behind a 4th wall. The audience is included in the narrative flow in a way that is refreshingly authentic and vulnerable. It tells the story of a transition from boyhood to “masculine sissy” dictated by the fate of an audience’s random pull from a bowl. After an exciting preview at Theo Ubique’s WinterFest 2025 and the support of DCASE 2025 grant\, SHYA! is excited to announce 3 new shows at BugHouse Theater.

SUMMARY:Other People's Bodies
DESCRIPTION:Queer Expression Film Festival presents the Chicago premiere of a provocative new film by Alan Brown\, Other People’s Bodies. \nA sultry\, queer reimagining of the French classic La Piscine\, Other People’s Bodies unfolds over one sweltering summer weekend\, where desire\, jealousy\, and unfinished business refuse to stay buried. \nOlivia\, a modern dancer\, is vacationing with her husband Seb at a secluded country house when their fragile calm is shattered by the sudden arrival of Mateo—Olivia’s former best friend and\, briefly\, Seb’s lover. The three haven’t seen each other in eight years\, since Mateo abruptly severed ties after a devastating betrayal. \nTensions rise when Mateo brings along his young\, magnetic lover Zaki\, reopening old wounds and igniting new temptations. Matters escalate further with the arrival of two more figures from the past: Gabriella\, a former dance colleague\, and her husband Fabian—Olivia’s lover before Seb. \nAs bodies gather and boundaries dissolve\, long-simmering passions\, regrets\, and desires collide\, leading to an emotionally charged reckoning in which nothing—and no one—emerges unchanged.

SUMMARY:Rapornzel
DESCRIPTION:The bawdy\, silly\, and immensely entertaining adult pantos by Britain’s Tom Whalley have become a popular holiday season tradition at PrideArts\, and the company will continue this tradition with its fourth Whalley panto – RAPORNZEL. Like its PrideArts predecessors JACK OFF THE BEANSTALK\, SLEEPING WITH BEAUTY\, and THROBBIN WOOD\, RAPORNZEL will fracture a famous fairy tale with unimaginable R-rated puns\, pop songs\, and audience participation\, all adding up to an outrageously good time. RAPORNZEL will be directed by Claire Hart Proepper of Laughing Stock Theatre\, the Evanston based theatre company specializing in Commedia dell’arte. The Italian tradition of Commedia dell’arte\, which flourished in the 16th Century\, was an influence on the genre of British pantos in its use of improvision\, exaggerated characters\, slapstick comedy\, and audience participation. Proepper’s experience in performing and directing Commedia dell’arte makes her uniquely qualified to bring the anarchic humor of Whalley’s panto to life.

SUMMARY:Life is a Queer Cabaret: a night of musical theatre & queer joy
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a cabaret of performers challenging the typical gender roles of musical theatre pieces. Don’t miss this sellout event!\n\n\n\nWithout changing anything in the text itself (pronouns\, description\, action\, etc)\, how does an identity change the way an audience engages with a character? What does it mean for Cabaret’s Emcee to be played by a woman? For Jack Kelly to be queer? For Audrey or Seymour to be played by trans actors? \nIdentities hold significance\, and with a backlog of many cis\, often straight or straight-assumed characters\, there is value in exploring and changing the narrative of musical theatre works. Whether it be for a nuanced dramatic effect or a comedic one\, we want to see musical theatre gender-fuckery (and beyond) at play! \nFEATURING: Essential Invisible\, Wesley Beyers\, Makenna Van Raalte\, Felicia Hinojosa \, Michael Davis Arnold\, Gina Saglimbeni \, Emely Cuestas\, Jacque Bischoff\, Reva Sangal\, Cas Lam & Rogelio Castro. \nDoors at 6pm with a one hour happy hour before the performances begin at 7pm. Dorothy remains open after the show until 11pm. \nTickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. \nDorothy is 21+ and requires physical ID for all to enter. Dorothy is also ADA accessible with elevator access on Campbell Ave. If you are a guest who requires elevator access\, please wait by the black door on Campbell Ave with our logo in the window and call our staff to assist: 773-770-3799 \nPlease note: refund requests are only available until 24h before the show (11/19\, 7pm). No other refund requests will be honored.
