Background music by Herbert Stothart. Dance and vocal arrangements by Peter Howard. Orchestration by Larry Wilcox. Adapted by John Kane for the Royal Shakespeare Company. Based upon the classic motion picture owned by Turner Entertainment Co. and distributed in all media by Warner Bros. Directed and choreographed by Tor Campbell and music directed by Sharon Mason. \nAudiences are invited to join The Cowardly Lion\, Scarecrow\, Tin Man\, Dorothy… and Toto\, too\, as they follow the yellow brick road in search of their heart’s desires. For the first time on Metropolis’ Main Stage\, L. Frank Baum’s tale comes to life in this extraordinary story of heart\, friendship\, courage and belonging. This adaptation contains all of the Oscar-winning songs from the movie\, including “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” and “We’re Off To See The Wizard\,” all while reminding audiences that there is no place like home. \nIn addition to the company of professional artists\, summer class students from the Metropolis School of the Performing Arts\, will be a part of the Munchinkin troupe. DESCRIPTION:Dream Devis\, Chicago’s trans femme South Asian collective\, return to Steppenwolf after their sold-out eponymous show last year. Join our Devis for an existentialist romp through time\, history\, mythology and pop culture through song\, dance and comedy. \nDream Devis: The Death And Life Of centers and celebrates women at the margins of their own stories via a decidedly queer\, camp lens on the big questions of life (and death). \nThis new work uses a short story by the legendary polymath Rabindranath Tagore\, known widely as the greatest man of Indian letters\, as the creative springboard for a fantastical exploration of mythology\, literature and history. Nervous Breakdown in G Minor is a lyrical autobiography about growing up Mormon in Montana\, training as a classical cellist and confronting the realities of pursuing a life in music. \nLewis interweaves storytelling with a live performance of a four-movement cello sonata\, a turbulent work that mirrors his path from discovery and joy through doubt and collapse to rebirth. The result is a raw exploration of identity and a reclamation of narrative—seeking a more honest\, and ultimately universal\, connection to music. \nNervous Breakdown in G Minor recently completed a critically acclaimed run at the Winnipeg Fringe Festival. Belmont Ave.\, June 11 – 28\, written by Eric Coble and directed by Jason Palmer.\nIn the heart of the Bible Belt\, a local theatre company announces it will stage a play called Rapture in America—complete with seven seconds of male nudity—sending the city into a frenzy. Based on actual events\, Eric Coble’s Southern Rapture turns this civic eruption into a wickedly funny satire about artistic freedom\, arts funding\, the weaponization of civic institutions and what happens when conviction outruns common sense.\nOriginally commissioned by Actor’s Theatre of Charlotte\, Southern Rapture draws directly from one of the city’s most explosive cultural battles. In 1996\, Charlotte Repertory Theatre announced a production of Angels in America.. The district attorney attempted to bring criminal charges\, however\, emergency court injunctions required the show to open. “Good Morning America” broadcast a train-wreck debate\, turning a local arts dispute into a national spectacle.\nEighteen months later\, county commissioners retaliated by slashing $2.5 million in arts funding\, destabilizing organizations across the city. Although much of that funding was later restored\, the interruption sent lasting ripples through Charlotte’s artistic landscape. Charlotte Rep won the Angels battle\, but the controversy produced long-term consequences that cost it the war. California Ave. \nIn Talking About Godard\, three restless artists live awkwardly together. Helen chain smokes\, has sex with whomever and talks straight. Mary Barnes is obsessed with the films of Jean Luc Godard and is determined to make her own Godard film in Super 8. A neighborhood thug named Leon helps Chrissy by stealing suitcases from O’Hare and adds to the spoils of the household. Then a French caller comes looking for love. The play examines female friendship and cohabitation in the 90s\, the artistic process and how groups do and don’t satisfy our needs. \nTalking About Godard was originally produced by The Curious Theatre Branch in 1996 and its cast included Jenny Magnus (Helen)\, Vicki Walden (Mary Barnes) and Paul Leisen (Leon)\, who repeat their original roles in this revival. New cast members include Kristin Garrison (Chrissy) and Jayita Bhattacharya (Leon). \nThe performance takes place Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m. The running time is currently 90 minutes with no intermission. DESCRIPTION:The Last Word\, created by Declan Grogan\, announces performance dates each month from May to August\, at the iO Theater\, 1501 N. Kingsbury St. \nThe Last Word is the ONLY craft cocktail progression paired with a screenplay. The story is based on Chartreuse\, a real-life liqueur that sells millions of bottles every year\, but only two people in the world know how to make it. When Mike finds one dying in the woods and is given the only known copy of the recipe\, he has to decide whether to return it to the monastery that keeps it safe or die trying. Audiences may experience a high-action comedy script complete with lights\, sound\, music and other fun surprises throughout the night\, including four cocktails crafted specifically for each act of the show. Finally\, at The Last Word\, there is only one rule: No one knows what will happen tonight. Content warning: flashing lights\, loud sounds\, profanity and depictions of violence. \nThe performance schedule is Thursday\, May 28 at 7 p.m.\, followed by Friday\, June 26\, Friday\, July 31 and Friday\, August 28 at 7 p.m. Ticket prices are $50 for both general admission and the drink package\, which includes four specialty cocktails and $20 for general admission tickets without the cocktail experience.
