SUMMARY:Gerber/Hart Play Club: Last Summer at Bluefish Cove
DESCRIPTION:Join Gerber/Hart’s Play Reading Club Saturday\, August 29th\, from 1 PM – 3 PM as we read along to Last Summer at Bluefish Cove by Jane Chambers (1980). We’ll divvy up the roles\, read aloud\, and have a short discussion after. Hope to see you there! \nA few copies of the script will be available for use\, but please bring a phone\, laptop\, or other device to read the online .pdf if you can! The elevator is located at the end of the hallway (past the Howard Brown front desk)\, and Gerber/Hart’s Raffety/Tran Community Room is just outside the elevator doors through the hallway on your right. \nWhen: Saturday\, August 29th\, from 1 PM – 3 PM \nWhere: Gerber/Hart’s Raffety/Tran Community Room \n6500 N Clark Street\, 2nd floor \n𝗣𝗹𝗮𝘆 𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘆: Set in the late seventies\, Last Summer at Bluefish Cove is a groundbreaking play about a tight-knit lesbian enclave who gather every summer at an isolated beach resort. The usual lesbian drama is disrupted by the arrival of a newly single straight woman who quickly realizes she’s not as straight as she thought. A story about chosen family\, visibility\, love and loss\, Bluefish Cove was the first lesbian play to open at a mainstream New York Theater for its premiere in 1980. \n𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴: period typical homophobia and internalized homophobia\, and discussion of illness and death.
