SUMMARY:Grace Jones and Janelle Monáe
DESCRIPTION:Featuring: QUEEN! at the Carousel in collaboration with Metro/smartbar \nGrace Jones–the trailblazing icon of music\, fashion\, and film–takes the Ravinia stage for the first time this summer\, delivering a mesmerizing performance that defies genre and expectation. Throughout her career\, the multi-talented artist has woven music across styles\, bringing together disco\, new wave post-punk\, art pop\, industrial\, reggae\, and gospel\, creating “a tight sound that is distinctly hers” (Vice). Rolling Stone celebrates her remarkable influence\, writing\, “So many performers are said to be larger than life\, but the show biz cliché has never been truer than it is for Grace Jones.” \nJones is joined by Janelle Monáe–a trailblazer in her own right\, making her own Ravinia debut–whose innovative spark has led to success in music and film\, with ten Grammy nominations and performances in Glass Onion\, Harriet\, and Hidden Figures. NPR described her 2015 protest song “Hell You Talmbout” as “visceral” and “blistering\,” highlighting its powerful message against racial violence\, and Rolling Stone praised her 2013 album The Electric Lady\, highlighting Monáe’s “sheer force of freakadelic will and a radical feminist’s sense of self-exploration.”

SUMMARY:Elder\, Goosby & Price
DESCRIPTION:In Randall Goosby\, the pioneering American composer Florence Price “has her ideal champion\,” writes The Guardian\, “his playing full of old-school warmth and breadth but never schmaltzy.” Price’s beguiling violin concerto shares a program with Prokofiev’s enchanting Seventh Symphony\, composed for a children’s radio broadcast. The suite from Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg gathers stirring moments from Wagner’s opera.

SUMMARY:Perfume Genius ‘Glory Tour’
DESCRIPTION:Hadreas\, a Seattle native\, began his music career in 2008 and released his debut album\, Learning\, in 2010 via long-time label home Matador. The album immediately captured critics’ attention\, with Pitchfork praising its “eviscerating and naked” songs\, marked by “heartbreaking sentiments and bruised characterizations delivered in a voice that ranges from an ethereal croon to a slightly cracked warble.” These descriptors became the hallmarks of Perfume Genius – Hadreas’ unique ability to convey emotional vulnerability not only lyrically\, but with his impressively nuanced vocals.

SUMMARY:Out and Proud: A Rainbow Icon Celebration
DESCRIPTION:Two shows: June 19 and June 20 \nCelebrate Pride with Melissa Young and Nick Sula as they return with Young’s historical hit\, OUT AND PROUD: A Rainbow Celebration. Sixteen years ago\, Young performed the music of the World’s most loved LGBTQ Icon’s to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Stonewall riots\, June 28\, 1969 and now returns to celebrate the progress our country has made with help from some of her friends! Young’s been seen all around town at Davenports\, Hydrate\, the Park West\, 3160 and Drury Lane Water Tower and out of town at The Dunes Resort\, Don’t Tell Mama in NYC\, The Duplex NYC and The Stonewall Inn. \nThe Den Theatre and comedy club is pleased to host Out and Proud: A Rainbow Icon Celebration on June 19-20\, 2025 at 1331 N. SUMMARY:Album Release Concert featuring Roy Kinsey
DESCRIPTION:At its core\, Dandelions: Gods Don’t Cry is about resilience\, transformation\, and self-acceptance. The dandelion\, often dismissed as a weed\, symbolizes Blackness\, queerness\, and survival—thriving in places where it wasn’t meant to\, adapting\, and still standing tall. \nThrough the 13-track journey\, the album explores: \n\nPersonal and collective Black histories\, linking past and present struggles to the beauty of endurance.\nQueer identity and self-reclamation\, navigating the world as both marginalized and divinely powerful.\nFamily\, grief\, and healing\, with storytelling that honors legacy while challenging systemic erasure.\n\nMusically\, the album is immersive and cinematic\, weaving together hip-hop\, soul\, and spoken word. It is meant to be experienced as a living\, breathing piece of literature\, aligned with Roy’s mission to elevate rap as a literary art form.
