SUMMARY:Ragbagalia Arts Fest
DESCRIPTION:As Chicago emerges from its winter burrow\, a new cultural fixture is set to bloom with a historic headlining performance. Ragbagalia\, a brand-new femme and queer arts festival\, officially announces its inaugural event for May 16\, 2026\, at Sleeping Village\, featuring the legendary ESG on their highly-anticipated “Final Dance” tour. \nFor many\, this will be the final opportunity to witness the seismic influence of ESG—a band whose minimalist funk and post-punk rhythms provided the DNA for hip-hop and house music—on a Chicago stage. Their farewell performance anchors a curated “ragbag” team of\nartists dedicated to reclaiming space for voices that deserve to be heard. “In today’s political and cultural climate\, safer\, femme-forward spaces feel more necessary than ever\,” says Tracy Evans\, Founder of Ragbagalia. “Bringing ESG’s ‘Final Dance’ to this stage is the ultimate tribute to the underground. We are pairing these icons with emerging voices to build something that is both revolutionary and a celebration of the legacy they’ve built.” \nInspired by the radical history of the Riot Grrrl movement and the space-making narratives of authors like Sara Marcus and Carrie Brownstein\, Ragbagalia disrupts the traditional festival model. The event is entirely women-led and multidisciplinary\, centering women\, femme\, queer\,\nand marginalized artists across music\, performance\, and visual art. \nAlongside ESG\, the lineup includes Chicago’s own She’s Crafty (all-female Beastie Boys tribute)\, and powerhouse acts Period Bomb\, Uniity\, and Pleeay. Rooted in the city’s supportive arts community\, Evans and co-leader Ashley Barlow (co-founder of littleHEADbutt Studios) have designed Ragbagalia to prioritize safety\, authenticity\, and accessibility. Held at the ADA-accessible Sleeping Village\, the festival emphasizes affordability\nwith an all-day ticket that includes live music and a curated pop-up gallery. In keeping with its commitment to equity\, profits from the event go directly to the participating artists\, with remaining funds donated to the festival’s primary partner\, Punk Rock Saves Lives.

SUMMARY:Conversion Therapy Dropout Chicago Release Party with Tim Schraeder Rodriguez
DESCRIPTION:Join former Chicagoan Timothy Schraeder Rodriguez to celebrate the release of Conversion Therapy Dropout with a reading\, conversation and signing. A gay Christian’s behind-the-scenes account of evangelical megachurches and eight years in conversion therapy before finding wholeness and authenticity. \nTimothy Schraeder Rodriguez was an invisible architect behind evangelical Christianity’s digital empire\, crafting messages of belonging for some of the most influential megachurches–Hillsong Church\, Elevation Church\, Willow Creek–all while secretly questioning his own place within the faith. \nIn a desperate attempt to “fix” himself\, he turned to conversion therapy\, spending eight years trying to pray the gay away. And he wasn’t alone. More than 700\,000 people in the US have undergone some form of conversion therapy. Even though Exodus International\, the largest ex-gay organization\, closed in 2013\, the practice still thrives in many conservative religious communities. After years of this harmful “therapy\,” Schraeder Rodriguez’s sexuality never changed. But his faith did.The more time he spent in evangelical Christianity\, the more he witnessed the hypocrisy of institutions that claimed to love everyone while quietly pushing people like him into silence. But Schraeder Rodriguez wouldn’t remain silent. Instead\, he forged a new path\, discovering a vibrant faith beyond the constraints of non-affirming theology and finding a community that embraced his whole self. \nConversion Therapy Dropout is a behind-the-scenes look at megachurch culture\, the hidden harm of non-affirming Christian spaces\, and the ongoing impact of conversion therapy on gay Christians. This isn’t just a coming-out story–it’s about what happens after. About rebuilding a life outside the only world you’ve ever known. And the radical act of stepping into the light after being told your whole life to stay in the shadows. Sometimes\, the greatest act of faith isn’t holding on–it’s letting go. \nTimothy will be in conversation with Kathy Khang. \nFree RSVP is requested

SUMMARY:Q Salon: Common Threads & What We Want
DESCRIPTION:We are excited to announce our March Q Salon will be Tuesday\, March 24! This month we will be picking up where we left off with a discussion around the common threads that bring us together under the Democratic coalition and what exactly it is that we want out of our politics. \nWhy are we talking about this? It’s simple. If we can’t articulate what we want\, we can’t work to make it happen. And\, if anyone should decide what the Democratic party and progressive politics should stand for\, it should be us\, the people\, not anyone else. \nFor this month’s salon\, we’ll gather at the Center On Halsted (3656 N. Halsted). Doors will open at 6pm and we’ll get started at 6:30pm. \nBring your friends and see you there!

SUMMARY:Together We Win: Fight for the T in Team
DESCRIPTION:Fight for the T in Team: Together We Win Panel & Community Dinner WHEN: Tuesday January 13\, 2026 6pm WHERE: Center on Halsted 3656 N Halsted St\, Chicago\, IL 60613 \nOn Jan. 13\, the U.S. Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in two cases that will shape the future of transgender and nonbinary (TNB) youth and people in this country: West Virginia v. BPJ and Little v. Hecox. These two cases represent two teenage girls from West Virginia and Idaho\, who sued just to be allowed to continue playing sports like any other student. And we are united as a Team for them! \nThe panel\, beginning at 6:30pm\, will break down the oral arguments and the potential impacts on the Equal Protection Clause and Title IX. A meal will follow\, allowing attendees to connect as a community. \nWHEN AND WHERE: ABOUT THE CASES: In these cases\, the Court will decide whether states can categorically bar transgender girls and women from participating on girls’ and women’s sports teams\, a direct challenge to the Equal Protection Clause and Title IX. A broad ruling could go even further\, opening the door to widespread discrimination against transgender people not only from playing sports but in every part of public life\, including a discriminatory shift in how youth participate in school activities and extracurricular programs. These cases go beyond laws and impact who we should respect as part of our communities\, what our public schools should be like and who they should serve\, and what role the government should play in our lives. \nWHY IS IT IMPORTANT: While our communities are worried about putting food on the table\, making rent\, losing healthcare\, or being disappeared by ICE\, politicians and billionaires are making our lives harder by spending millions of dollars to ignite unfounded fears about trans people in an attempt to divide us. The current administration is abusing his power to target our communities\, suppress dissent\, and create a climate of fear\, and some politicians are using these cases to legitimize discrimination and push trans and nonbinary people out of public life altogether. We refuse to let that happen. \nHOW CAN I SUPPORT?: JOIN US on Tuesday\, Jan. 13 when a national coalition of organizations led by ACLU\, Lambda Legal\, Transgender Law Center (TLC) and Genders & Sexualities Alliance Network (GSA Network)\, are coming together to say clearly: We Fight for Team Trans Youth. And we need you with us! \nLet’s cheer them up. Join our TEAM! RSVP Now! And make sure your friends sign up too! \nAnd help spread the word on social media.

SUMMARY:World AIDS Day commemoration with Wrightwood 659 and the Joffrey Ballet
DESCRIPTION:Wrightwood 659 and The Joffrey Ballet proudly announce a special World AIDS Day commemoration honoring those lost to the epidemic to be held at Wrightwood 659 (659 Wrightwood Avenue) Thursday\, December 4\, at 5:30pm. World AIDS Day\, officially December 1\, is a global movement to unite people in the fight against HIV and AIDS. Since 1988\, communities have stood together on World AIDS Day to show strength and solidarity against HIV stigma and to remember lives lost. \nThe Joffrey Ballet was deeply affected during this period\, losing several remarkable artists\, including Company Founder Robert Joffrey at age 59 and his protégé Edward Stierle at just 23. Following Joffrey’s passing\, Stierle choreographed Lacrymosa and\, while on his own deathbed\, completed Empyrean. As noted in a New York Times interview\, Stierle’s dance partner observed\, “Where Lacrymosa was about death\, Empyrean is about celebration and hope.” \nThis public program will feature opening remarks by Greg Cameron\, Joffrey Ballet President & CEO; a screening of Empyrean and discussion; and a memorial segment inviting attendees to share reflections and memories of those lost to AIDS.  Tickets for this special program are complimentary with paid admission to Wrightwood 659. \nWrightwood 659 is currently mounting The Joffrey + Ballet in the U.S.\, a large-scale exhibition celebrating the rich history of The Joffrey Ballet. The exhibition premiered at The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center in 2024\, marking the first major retrospective of the company. Drawing from the Joffrey archive\, acquired by the Jerome Robbins Dance Division in 2017 as the Library’s largest acquisition in a decade\, the exhibition offers an in-depth look at the Joffrey’s contributions to ballet in the U.S. Highlights include rare film from the original performance of the groundbreaking ballet Astarte and Anna Sokolow’s Opus 65\, as well as costumes\, props\, pointe shoes\, posters\, correspondence\, and other ephemera from the company and the life of Robert Joffrey. The Joffrey + Ballet in the U.S. is organized by The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts and curated by Dr. Julia Foulkes with assistance from Nicole Duffy. It is presented at Wrightwood 659 by Alphawood Exhibitions. \n  \nAlso on view at Wrightwood 659 through December 20\, 2025\, are Scott Burton: Shape Shift\, which examines the legacy of Scott Burton (1939–1989)\, an American original whose wide-ranging practice anticipated many of the strategies of today’s art; and Ellen Altfest: Forever\, an intimate selection of oil paintings by the American representational painter.

SUMMARY:No Kings Protest - Hands Off Chicago
DESCRIPTION:Here in Chicago we know how to rise up\, fight back\, and support each other. It is more important than ever that we do that together on October 18th as we show the nation and the world that Chicago is united in opposing these illegal and unnecessary attacks against our neighbors\, our communities\, and our democracy. Our actions and resistance are necessary as Trump sends militarized agents into our communities\, silences voters and voices\, and hands billionaires giveaways while families struggle. This isn’t just politics. It’s democracy versus dictatorship. We won’t accept a wannabe king\, and we won’t back down in the face of chaos\, corruption\, and cruelty. Join us in Chicago on October 18th as we join millions of people across the country in a national day of action to declare: No Kings and Hands Off Chicago! \nThis event is being organized by the Hands Off Chicago Coalition (Chicago Federation of Labor\, Equality Illinois\, Indivisible Chicago\, Personal PAC\, Sierra Club Illinois); ACLU of Illinois; and a growing number of partner organizations.
