SUMMARY:Curious Theatre Branch Presents Revival of “Talking About Godard\,” May 29 - June 28
DESCRIPTION:Curious Theatre Branch\, launches its 38th Season\, with the revival of Talking About Godard\, written by Beau O’Reilly and directed by Beau O’Reilly with Briavael O’Reilly\, May 29 – June 28\, at Facility Theatre\, 1138 N. California Ave. \nIn Talking About Godard\, three restless artists live awkwardly together. Helen chain smokes\, has sex with whomever and talks straight. A neighborhood thug named Leon helps Chrissy by stealing suitcases from O’Hare and adds to the spoils of the household. Then a French caller comes looking for love. The play examines female friendship and cohabitation in the 90s\, the artistic process and how groups do and don’t satisfy our needs. \nTalking About Godard was originally produced by The Curious Theatre Branch in 1996 and its cast included Jenny Magnus (Helen)\, Vicki Walden (Mary Barnes) and Paul Leisen (Leon)\, who repeat their original roles in this revival. New cast members include Kristin Garrison (Chrissy) and Jayita Bhattacharya (Leon). \nThe performance takes place Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m. The running time is currently 90 minutes with no intermission. Tickets are priced on a “pay what you can” scale\, with a suggested price of $25. For more information about Talking About Godard visit CuriousTheatreBranch.com.

SUMMARY:Tin Drum Theatre Company Presents “Southern Rapture”\, June 11 - 28 at Theater Wit
DESCRIPTION:Tin Drum Theatre Company is proud to announce the cast and creative team for the Chicago premiere of Southern Rapture at Theater Wit\, 1229 W. Belmont Ave.\, June 11 – 28\, written by Eric Coble and directed by Jason Palmer.\nIn the heart of the Bible Belt\, a local theatre company announces it will stage a play called Rapture in America—complete with seven seconds of male nudity—sending the city into a frenzy. Based on actual events\, Eric Coble’s Southern Rapture turns this civic eruption into a wickedly funny satire about artistic freedom\, arts funding\, the weaponization of civic institutions and what happens when conviction outruns common sense.\nOriginally commissioned by Actor’s Theatre of Charlotte\, Southern Rapture draws directly from one of the city’s most explosive cultural battles. In 1996\, Charlotte Repertory Theatre announced a production of Angels in America.. The district attorney attempted to bring criminal charges\, however\, emergency court injunctions required the show to open. “Good Morning America” broadcast a train-wreck debate\, turning a local arts dispute into a national spectacle.\nEighteen months later\, county commissioners retaliated by slashing $2.5 million in arts funding\, destabilizing organizations across the city. Although much of that funding was later restored\, the interruption sent lasting ripples through Charlotte’s artistic landscape. Charlotte Rep won the Angels battle\, but the controversy produced long-term consequences that cost it the war. Amid donor fatigue\, mounting financial strain and leadership turnover\, the company closed permanently in 2005.\nThe performance schedule is Thursdays – Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m. Tickets are $30 with $15 student tickets and may be purchased at TinDrumTheatre.com.

SUMMARY:6311arts Presents May Exhibition\, Bringing Together Established Chicago Artists\, Emerging Student Voices\, and Inclusive Community Programming
DESCRIPTION:CHICAGO — This spring\, Edgewater community center 6311arts will present its May Exhibition\, a multi-faceted showcase running May 16 through July 4\, 2026\, with an opening reception on Saturday\, May 16 from 6–9 p.m. \nDesigned as both an exhibition and a gathering point for multiple strands of Chicago’s creative community\, the May Exhibition brings together work by established local artists\, emerging student makers\, and artists working within inclusive educational settings. \nQueue — Brad Gibbs\nThe center’s main gallery will feature Queue\, a presentation of works by Chicago artist Brad Gibbs\, whose mixed-media paintings combine abstraction\, layered texture\, and vivid figurative suggestion. \nArt on the Edge — Austin Special Chicago\nAlso featured is Art on the Edge\, a group presentation from Austin Special Chicago\, a program serving adults with developmental disabilities through arts-centered enrichment and community engagement. Five artists from the program\, working under the guidance of educator Edwige Massart\, will present work that underscores 6311arts’ commitment to accessibility\, expression\, and broad participation in the arts. \nAmerican Surrealism — DePaul Artist Coalition\nContinuing 6311arts’ investment in nurturing emerging local talent\, American Surrealism will present an end-of-year showcase by fifteen artists from the newly formed DePaul Artist Coalition\, a student-run organization dedicated to building community and visibility for young artists at a pivotal stage in their creative development. \nEntrance Installation — Piloto\nAnchoring the exhibition at the center’s entrance will be a life-size sculpture by Piloto\, whose sculptural practice merges mythic imagery\, found materials\, and social consciousness. Known throughout Chicago for creating works that speak to migration\, resilience\, and collective humanity\, Piloto approaches sculpture as a form of public conversation. \nTogether\, these presentations reflect 6311arts’ broader mission: to create an approachable\, neighborhood-centered venue where established artists\, young creatives\, and historically underrepresented voices can share space in meaningful dialogue. \nVisitors to the opening reception will have the opportunity to meet participating artists\, engage with a wide variety of media and perspectives\, and celebrate the ongoing growth of Chicago’s North Side arts community. \nOpening Reception\nSaturday\, May 16\, 2026\n6–9 p.m. \nExhibition Dates\nMay 16 – July 4\, 2026 \nLocation\n6311 N. Clark Street\, Chicago \nThe event is free and open to the public. \nFor more information:\nwww.6311arts.com\nInstagram: @6311arts
