SUMMARY:6311arts Presents May Exhibition\, Bringing Together Established Chicago Artists\, Emerging Student Voices\, and Inclusive Community Programming
DESCRIPTION:CHICAGO — This spring\, Edgewater community center 6311arts will present its May Exhibition\, a multi-faceted showcase running May 16 through July 4\, 2026\, with an opening reception on Saturday\, May 16 from 6–9 p.m. \nDesigned as both an exhibition and a gathering point for multiple strands of Chicago’s creative community\, the May Exhibition brings together work by established local artists\, emerging student makers\, and artists working within inclusive educational settings. \nQueue — Brad Gibbs\nThe center’s main gallery will feature Queue\, a presentation of works by Chicago artist Brad Gibbs\, whose mixed-media paintings combine abstraction\, layered texture\, and vivid figurative suggestion. \nArt on the Edge — Austin Special Chicago\nAlso featured is Art on the Edge\, a group presentation from Austin Special Chicago\, a program serving adults with developmental disabilities through arts-centered enrichment and community engagement. Five artists from the program\, working under the guidance of educator Edwige Massart\, will present work that underscores 6311arts’ commitment to accessibility\, expression\, and broad participation in the arts. \nAmerican Surrealism — DePaul Artist Coalition\nContinuing 6311arts’ investment in nurturing emerging local talent\, American Surrealism will present an end-of-year showcase by fifteen artists from the newly formed DePaul Artist Coalition\, a student-run organization dedicated to building community and visibility for young artists at a pivotal stage in their creative development. \nEntrance Installation — Piloto\nAnchoring the exhibition at the center’s entrance will be a life-size sculpture by Piloto\, whose sculptural practice merges mythic imagery\, found materials\, and social consciousness. Known throughout Chicago for creating works that speak to migration\, resilience\, and collective humanity\, Piloto approaches sculpture as a form of public conversation. \nTogether\, these presentations reflect 6311arts’ broader mission: to create an approachable\, neighborhood-centered venue where established artists\, young creatives\, and historically underrepresented voices can share space in meaningful dialogue. \nVisitors to the opening reception will have the opportunity to meet participating artists\, engage with a wide variety of media and perspectives\, and celebrate the ongoing growth of Chicago’s North Side arts community. \nOpening Reception\nSaturday\, May 16\, 2026\n6–9 p.m. \nExhibition Dates\nMay 16 – July 4\, 2026 \nLocation\n6311 N.
