SUMMARY:Chicago Repertory Ballet's Spring Series
DESCRIPTION:MAY 29 – 31 | RUTH PAGE CENTER FOR THE ARTS\nREPERTORY INCLUDES:\nTHE RITE OF SPRING – WADE SCHAAF\nWORLD PREMIERE – YANIS ERIC PIKIERIS\nWORLD PREMIERE – WADE SCHAAF\nJoin Chicago Repertory Ballet for an exhilarating Spring Series that celebrates repertory\, reinvention\, and bold new voices. Anchoring the our Spring Series is the remounting of Founding Artistic Director Wade Schaaf’s The Rite of Spring\, set to Igor Stravinsky’s watershed score. \nCRB has not performed this ballet since its striking 2021 presentation on Crickett Hill\, and we are thrilled to bring this monumental work to the stage at the Ruth Page Center for the Arts. Drawing inspiration from the Ballets Russes era while infusing it with CRB’s contemporary classical sensibility\, Schaaf’s Rite is visceral\, ritualistic\, and theatrically charged — a work that honors tradition while boldly reinterpreting it for today’s audiences. \nThe program also features a world premiere work by choreographer Yanis Eric Pikieris. Known for his sweeping physicality and intricate musicality\, Pikieris crafts movement that is both architecturally precise and emotionally expansive. His choreography demands virtuosity while revealing the humanity of the dancer — an arresting combination that has quickly distinguished his voice. \nAlso on the program is a world premiere by Founding Artistic Director Wade Schaaf. Schaaf’s work has been described as “musically sophisticated and dramatically immediate\,” blending structural rigor with an unflinching theatrical instinct. This new creation continues their exploration of contemporary classical form\, pushing the company’s artists both technically and expressively. \nDo not miss these exciting works including the Chicago premiere of Miami based choreographer Yanis Eric Pikieris!
