SUMMARY:Dancing with HIV Book Event
DESCRIPTION:Tony “T-Soul” Hughes lived with HIV for 16 years. During that time\, he wrote poetry. After his death from complications of HIV/AIDS\, his sister Billie Holiday Hughes published those poems in a book called Dancing with HIV. \nBillie grew up in Altgeld Gardens on the South Side of Chicago. She built a career in film and television as a key assistant location manager — The Chi (Seasons 1–8)\, Marvel’s Ironheart\, Heist 88\, Sense8\, and more. She is also the person who carried her brother’s words to print. \nJoin us at Jamii Center for the Arts and Media for a reading and conversation with Billie Holiday Hughes about the book\, about Tony\, and about what it means to preserve someone’s voice after they are gone.

SUMMARY:Marsha Stevens-Pino & Justin Ryan Concert
DESCRIPTION:Marsha Stevens-Pino and Justin Ryan Concert\nFree Admission!\nSaturday\, April 11 at 5PM\nMapel Street Chapel\n220 S. Main St. Lombard\, IL \nAfter publicly coming out as a lesbian in 1981\, Marsha Stevens-Pino (widely recognized as the “mother of contemporary Christian music) her songs were removed from hymnals\, performances were canceled\, and she was largely ostracized by the mainstream Christian music industry. In response\, Marsha founded BALM Ministries (Born Again Lesbian Music)\, creating a vital artistic and spiritual home for LGBTQ+ Christians. Justin Ryan—a queer Christian singer-songwriter originally from Paducah\, KY met Marsha through the Metropolitan Community Church. Encouraged by Marsha\, Justin moved to Nashville to record with her\, which led to studio work and background singing for renowned country artists. Come hear their beautiful music and be moved by their inspiring stories! \nSponsored by First Church of Lombard

SUMMARY:Violet Surprise Theatre Presents: The Revolutionists
DESCRIPTION:The Revolutionists will not be televised. It will be dramatized – by Violet Surprise Theatre\, whose mission is to vibrantly validate the voices of women. Written by Lauren Gunderson and directed by Iris Sowlat\, The Revolutionists is a hysterical and historical (or\, more accurately\, herstorical) play that invites audiences to experience the French Revolution from a woman’s perspective. So don’t pardon our French. Pardon our Frenchwomen and their très merciless treatment during the Reign of Terror.
